Chu Ai Li

Datin Chu Ai Li was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996. She joined Azman Davidson & Co in 2001 and became a Partner in 2004.

Career Highlights

Ai Li’s professional practice is distinctly focused on construction contracts and construction law. Her experience spans across the spectrum of construction contract documentation, contract administration advisory work and dispute resolution. She advises and represents developers, contractors, sub-contractors, employers, consultants and professional bodies in the construction industry.

Experience

  • Drafting and advising on construction-related contracts, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC), turnkey and design and build contracts, contracts for architectural and engineering works (including standard form contracts issued by the Malaysian Public Works Department (Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM), Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM)), sub-contracts, consultancy contracts and project management contracts
  • Advising on construction contract administration and management issues
  • Dispute resolution, in Court and in arbitration and in CIPAA adjudication
  • Construction law matters such as:
    1. Contractual disputes involving breach of contract, termination of contract etc
    2. Claims for certified and uncertified sums
    3. Claims for extension of time
    4. Claims for loss and expense, prolongation and disruption
    5. Claims for variation
    6. Injunctions relating to performance bonds and restraint of winding up proceedings
